“How many gallons are in my pool?” This is a question that all pool owners need to know the answer to in order to properly understand chemical dosages and receive help from pool professionals. Whether your pool is kidney shaped, oval, rectangle or “L” shaped, there is a way to get an estimate of how much water it holds. Read this blog and watch the video to learn more!

Basic Pool Volume Calculations

For generic pool shapes, such as a rectangle or kidney:

Volume = Length x Width x Avg. Depth

If you’re looking to calculate the approximate amount of gallons in your pool, you’ll want to first determine what shape your pool is. If your pool is either a rectangle or kidney shape, you can use the following formula: length x width x average depth.

If your pool has a slope, use the following formula to determine average depth:

(Depth in shallow end + Depth in deep end)/2 = Average depth

“L” Shaped Pool: If you have an “L” shaped pool, you can split each section into 2 rectangles and use the same volume formula listed above for each section, adding the results together to get the total volume for your pool.
