The best way to protect your pool during the winter is a cover. In this video, we'll go over how to properly set up and secure an inground winter cover!

How To Use An Inground Winter Cover

First things first: make sure your pool water has been properly balanced, cleaned, and winterized. Doheny's has the water test strips and water test kits, pool vacuums and cleaners, and leaf skimmers you need! You can find Doheny's Winter Closing Kits in the right size for your pool here.

Follow these steps to properly install your winter pool cover.

  1. Before covering your pool, make sure to clear all debris such as leaves and dirt from your pool and skimmer basket(s).
  2. Use a Doheny’s Closing Kit to properly sanitize your pool, and drain your pool to the recommended level for the winter.
  3. Blow out the plumbing lines and add anti-freeze per your pool’s needs.
  4. Remove all the necessary drain plugs from your equipment and place the Winter Oxidizing Floater in your pool.
  5. Next, unpack your Doheny’s Winter Cover and spread it out over your pool.
  6. Grab your empty Doheny’s Water Tubes or Blocks and place them around the perimeter of your pool. If you have a leaf net, skip this step until you’ve placed the leaf net on top of your winter cover.
  7. Begin filling your water tubes or blocks. Only fill them 1/2 to 3/4's of the way full for freeze expansion.
  8. Make sure to close the water blocks of the leak-proof valves after filling.
